Peter Guérin du Rocher (1731-1792) was one of the Jesuits who were killed when the French Revolution turned into a rabid anti-Catholic persecution. Father Guérin du Rocher was teaching philosophy at Bourges in 1762. He left France and lived in Italy, Germany and Poland where he developed theories of biblical exegesis that contradicted the French Encyclopedists. His scholarship led the archbishop of Paris to name him director of a house of new converts in Paris and Queen Marie-Antoinette chose him as her confessor.
