Anthony Francisco (1551-1583) worked as a missionary for only a few months before his death. A native of Coimbra, Portugal, he was inspired to enter the Jesuits by the example of Father Ignatius de Azevedo, martyred on his way to Brazil. Francisco arrived in Goa in 1581 with Pacheco who had recruited him for the mission. The Portuguese Jesuit was ordained in Goa and was sent to the Molucca Islands, but the ship carrying him was wrecked shortly after its departure, so the young missionary went instead to Orlim, part of the Salsette mission.
