João ‘Adauctus’

João (born Entre Douro e Minho) was the nephew of the ship’s captain who was taking missionaries to Brazil when the boat was captured by Calvinist corsairs. João was a candidate to enter the Society. He was martyred, along with 39 other Jesuits led by Father Inácio de Azevedo.
