This spirit continues to shape what Jesuits do as priests

GC34, Decree 6, 11-12

Companions in a Mission of Reconciliation and Justice

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.

2 Cor. 5:18

General Congregation 36 expresses well our mission:

Throughout our preparation for this Congregation as a universal body with a universal mission, we heard accounts of the shocking forms of suffering and injustice that millions of our brothers and sisters endure. Reflecting on these, we hear Christ summon us anew to a ministry of justice and peace, serving the poor and the excluded and helping build peace.

Reconciliation is today the most heartrending cry of humanity

Arturo Sosa letter on Preferences

The Jesuits and our collaborators work to help people to reconcile with themselves, with God and with creation. In fact reconciliation has been a theme right from the beginning of the Society of Jesus when one of the key texts spoke about “reconciling the estranged”.

Jesuits have always worked to try to heal divisions following the example of Jesus Christ Himself.
