The Society of Jesus supports the World Climate Change Protest
Today, Friday, 27 September 2019, young people all over the world are taking part in rallies to protest in favour of the environment. Jesuits and their partners will also participate everywhere in this unique movement. This protest is a way to live the 4th Universal Apostolic Preference of the Society: “Caring for our Common Home”. As the 35th General Congregation noted, attention to climate issues is very important to us.
Care of the environment affects the quality of our relationships with God, with other human beings, and with creation itself. It touches the core of our faith in and love for God … The drive to access and exploit sources of energy and other natural resources is very rapidly widening the damage to earth, air, water, and our whole environment, to the point that the future of our planet is threatened (GC 35, d. 3, no. 32-33).
