In Homs, Syria, and Beirut, Lebanon, the martyrdom of Father Frans van der Lugt, murdered on April 7, 2014, was recently commemorated. Three of his Jesuit confreres offer us testaments to the influence Fr. Frans had during his apostolate in Syria, and its legacy even today.

They are:

- Fr. Cedric Prakash, Indian Jesuit, advocacy and communication officer for the JRS- Middle East (Jesuit Refugee Service)

- Fr. Jan Bronsveld, superior of the Saint-François-Xavier residence in Alexandria,

- Fr. Mourad Abou-Seif, superior of the Saint-Athanase residence and master of novices, in Cairo.
