Pope Francis pays tribute to one of his spiritual mentors

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, Pope Francis has scheduled a visit to the General Curia of the Society of Jesus. The reason for his visit is two-fold: first, he wanted to visit his Jesuit brothers on this auspicious occasion, and secondly, he was moved to pay tribute to one of his former teachers - Fr. Miguel Ángel Fiorito. As a spiritual guide to Jesuits in Argentina, Fr. Fiorito was an early influence on the Holy Father, and his writings have been published by La Civiltà Cattolica. Pope Francis himself will present the book - which he prefaced - and will speak of the impact that “Master Fiorito”, as the Pope calls Fr. Fiorito, has had on the Church. Father General Arturo Sosa will welcome Pope Francis to the Curia and will be joined by Fr. Antonio Spadaro, of La Civiltà Cattolica, as well as Fr. José Luis Narvaja SJ, who researched and edited Fr. Fiorito’s writings.

In the coming days, our site and social media will report on the event.
