Fr. James Arjen Tete, new Provincial of the Calcutta Province

Father General has appointed Fr. James Arjen Tete as the next Provincial of the Calcutta Province. Born in 1967, James Arjen Tete entered the Society of Jesus in 1987, was ordained a priest in 2003 and pronounced his Final Vows in 2018.

He holds Degrees in Sanskrit (Sanskrit College, Calcutta University), in Anthropology (M.A. from the University of Pune), and in Theology (M. Th. and Doctorate, Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley, USA).

He has served as Director of the Pre-Noviciate, Minister and Teacher in Parasmani Regional Theologate, Santiniketan, Lecturer and Reader in Theology at Jnana Deepa, Pune. Since 2021, he has been the Secretary for Integral Formation at JCSA (Jesuit Conference of South Asia) and was based in Delhi. Recently, he attended the Congregation of Procurators in Loyola, Spain, as the elected Procurator from the Calcutta Province.

He will take office on 14 September. May God grant Fr. Tete the graces needed to carry out his new responsibilities.
