Fr Pedro Rodrigues, new Provincial of Goa

On 4 April, Fr Arturo Sosa, Superior General, announced the appointment of Fr Pedro Rodrigues, 55 years old, as the new Provincial of the Goa Province in India. He will assume office on 22 April, Feast of Mary, Mother of the Society of Jesus.

Pedro Rodrigues was born in Aldona, in the state of Goa. After completing his secondary education at St. Xavier’s College in Mapusa, he obtained a Bachelor of Education degree from an Institute of the Goa University. As a member of the Society of Jesus, he studied philosophy in Pune and theology in Delhi. He went on to complete a Master’s degree in History and Archaeology and another in Education, from two public universities in Karnataka. He was ordained a priest in 2002 and took his final vows in 2010.

His entire professional career has been spent in the world of education, in Jesuit secondary schools in Mapusa, Margao and Belagavi. Last year, Fr Pedro represented his Province at the Congregation of Procurators held in Loyola, Spain. He is currently the superior of the Pedro Arrupe Institute in Raia, in the southern district of Goa.
