“Acquiring Universal Citizenship” – The Magis Exchange Programme

Increasingly, the world as a whole is facing major challenges. These require reflection, vision and ultimately action that transcend national boundaries. The universities and other institutions of higher learning of the Society of Jesus must prepare students for this global world. Fr Arturo Sosa made this clear at the General Assembly of the IAJU (International Association of Jesuit Universities) in 2018, when he stated: “Acquiring universal citizenship should be one of the fruits of studying at a Jesuit university.”

With this in mind, the IAJU launched the Magis Exchange programme in 2020, with the participation of 28 universities. A new phase is now underway, and its objective is to establish an international exchange programme that provides young people the opportunity to become citizens rooted in the Jesuit tradition, a tradition that is both academic and of service to the community.
