Reflections during this Lent 2023

Let us pray for a more widespread culture of non-violence, that will progress when countries and citizens alike resort less and less to the use of arms.

Father General has appointed Fr. Thierry Dobbelstein as the next Provincial Superior of the Jesuits of French-speaking Western Europe. This Province includes France, the Walloon Region of Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as Greece, Mauritius and Réunion.

In a letter to Fr. Antonio Moreno, President of the Jesuit Conference of Asia-Pacific (JCAP), Father General announced a change of jurisdiction for the mission in Pakistan. The mission, as of 1 April, will be under the responsibility of JCAP.

Father General has announced the appointment of the next General Treasurer of the Society. He will be Fr. Sebastian J. Jeerakassery, from the Delhi Province. He will assume office on 1 April 2023. He succeeds Fr. Thomas J. McClain who has held the position for the past 12 years.

Father General has appointed Fr. Ioannes Baptista Tsutomu Sakuma as the new Provincial of the Japan Province. He was born in Kobe, Japan, 70 years ago, the city where he attended the Jesuit Junior and Senior High schools. His family was close to the Jesuits.
