On 24 June, a series of powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela leaving widespread destruction in their wake. Homes, schools, health facilities and other infrastructure have been damaged and thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety.

While the full scale of the disaster is still emerging, the human cost is staggering. Livelihoods have been disrupted and communities are struggling to recover from the loss, shock and uncertainty caused by this tragedy. In this moment, solidarity is not optional – it is essential.

Our commitment

The Society of Jesus is doing its best to accompany those affected by the earthquake. While recovery may take some time, we are committed to ensuring that vulnerable families do not go through this emergency alone.

The Xavier Network, working with Fe y Alegría Venezuela, Jesuit Refugee Service Venezuela and other Jesuit works on the ground are conducting rapid assessments in affected areas to identify urgent humanitarian needs and ensure assistance reaches those most at risk. They are providing immediate emergency support, including temporary shelter, essential relief items, protection services, and psychosocial care for individuals and families.

What is needed now

The most urgent needs are safe shelter, clean water, food, healthcare, and protection for families. Many people are currently living in temporary or unsafe conditions while awaiting assistance and recovery support.
