Fr. Joseph Pham Tuan Nghia, new Provincial of Vietnam

Father General has appointed Fr. Joseph Pham Tuan Nghia (49) as the new Provincial of the Province of Vietnam. He is currently the rector of the St. Joseph’s Scholasticate in Thu Duc. The appointment was made public last 27 October.

Father Nghia entered the novitiate in Thu Duc in 1996. After his novitiate and philosophy studies in Vietnam, he went on to study theology at Loyola School of Theology in Manila, Philippines. There he obtained a Master’s degree in Spirituality and Retreat Directing. Ordained a priest in 2006, he was sent to the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and then to the University of Innsbruck (Austria) to continue his Biblical studies up to the doctorate. Back in Vietnam, he has been the dean of the theology program at St. Joseph’s Scholasticate. He did his tertianship in Sri Lanka in 2017 and since then has been rector of the scholasticate. He is also a consultor to the Provincial. He has been extensively involved in theological formation both for religious congregations and the Church in Vietnam.

He will take office on 21 November 2022.
