Following Jesus to the end. Prayer for Holy Week

Holy Week comprises the few days between Palm Sunday, which recalls Jesus triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, and the following Saturday, when Jesus is laid in the tomb after being rejected even by those who acclaimed him just a few days before.

Holy Week represents the end of Lent and its culmination. We are invited to meditate on the last days of Jesus’ earthly life, especially by commemorating the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, the meal at which Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and offered himself so that people could be nourished by his own life for centuries to come. During Holy Week we also commemorate the Passion of Jesus, his Way of the Cross and his death on Golgotha. It is a time for meditating on this death that leads us to Life.

Here is a suggested prayer for this Holy Week.

Father in heaven, who sent your only Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sin,
show me how to honor you and bring glory to your name, by walking in the way of Jesus.
Give me grace and mercy as I try and fail, give me guidance when I am not sure which way to go,
and give me wisdom to trust you in all things. For your love brings light and life to all who seek it.
May I seek you evermore as I walk with you through this Holy Week and beyond.
Amen.

We also invite you to meditate with this Kyrie chant performed by Jesuit students from the Collegio Internazionale del Gesù in Rome.
