New Provincial for the Madurai Province: Fr. Thomas Amirtham

Father General Arturo Sosa has appointed Fr. Thomas Amirtham Provincial of the Madurai (MDU) Province.

Born on 25 May 1964, Fr. Amirtham entered the Society of Jesus on 5 July 1984, was ordained a priest on 19 November 1994, and pronounced his Final Vows on 29 April 2005. He holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Pune and a Ph.D. in Applied Research from Gandhigram Rural Institute - Deemed University, Gandhigram, India.

He has served as Director at Paathai House, Vallam, (1997-2000), Lecturer-Campus Treasurer (2000-2006) and Superior (2006-2008) of Arul Anandar College, Karumathur, Province Treasurer, Dindigul (2008-2012), Lecturer-Campus Treasurer (2012-2019) and Principal (2019 till today) of Loyola College, Chennai.

Still in his fifties, Thomas Amirtham is very active and energetic, good in temporal administration, systematic in planning, and decisive in execution. A lively person, he exudes warmth and is easy to relate to. As Superior and Work Director, he has been emphasizing cura personalis as well as cura apostolica. He can easily work in contexts of networking and maintain good contacts with Jesuit alumni and government authorities. The date of his taking office has not yet been announced.
