Fr Jeffrey Burwell, new Provincial of the Province of Canada

Fr Arturo Sosa, Superior General, has appointed Fr Jeffrey Burwell, 48 years old, as the next Provincial of the Province of Canada.

Jeffrey Burwell is an education specialist whose doctoral research took him to the Holy Land, where he focused on Catholic schools in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. He first taught at St Paul's College, University of Manitoba, and then at Campion College, University of Regina. He combines his academic work with pastoral service as a chaplain to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and to prisoners. He also offers his services during the summer to aboriginal communities in northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He greatly appreciates the diversity of the many cultures of Canada and Haiti. It's worth noting that Haiti is part of the Province of Canada.

Although still relatively young, Father Burwell has significant experience in educational and pastoral apostolates on one of the geographic and cultural frontiers of the Province of Canada. He has been Superior of the community in Regina since 2018 and Provincial Consultor since 2021. He will take office on the feast of St Ignatius, 31 July.
