Fr Pavel Bačo: New Provincial for the Province of Bohemia

Father General has appointed Fr Pavel Bačo as the new Provincial of Bohemia Province (BOH).

Born in 1974 in Brumov-Bylnice, Fr Bačo joined the Society of Jesus in 1992. He studied philosophy at the Hochschule für Philosophie in Munich, and theology in Dublin, Ireland. In 2001, he progressed to postgraduate studies in systematic theology at Heythrop College in London. He was ordained a priest on 6 April 2002. Between 2011 and 2012 he completed his Tertianship in Dublin and pronounced his Final Vows on 27 November 2012 in Brno.

After returning to the Province, he primarily worked in university pastoral ministry at the Jesuit churches in Olomouc (2003-2011) and Brno (2012-2016). From 2016, he has served as the rector of St Ignatius Church in Prague and as the superior of the Prague Jesuit community since September 2018.

Since 2020, he has lived in the international novitiate in Birmingham, UK, where he is the socius of the Master of Novices and also serves as a chaplain for students at the University of Birmingham.
