Fr Henry Pattarumadathil: New Provincial for Kerala Province

Father General has appointed Fr Henry Pattarumadathil as the new Provincial for the Kerala Province in India. He will take up office towards the end of June.

Fr Pattarumadathilwas born on 5 March 1964 in the Archdiocese of Verapoly. He joined the Kerala Jesuit Province in 1986 after graduating in Mathematics from St. Albert’s College, Ernakulam. His formation included the Novitiate at Christ Hall, Calicut; Juniorate at Beschi College, Dindigul; Philosophy at Jnana Deepa, Pune; Theology at the Regional Theology Centre (RTC), Kalady, and Jnana Deepa, Pune. He was ordained a priest on 30 December 1995.

He earned a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, and later obtained a Doctorate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has held various leadership roles, including Superior of Sameeksha and the RTC, Kalady; Director of Studies at the RTC; Province Coordinator for Formation; and Province Consultor. He was also the Kerala Province delegate to General Congregation 35.

Since 2012, he has been teaching at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, where he currently serves as Dean of the Biblical Faculty. In 2021, he was appointed a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission.
