Fr Fabien Gasigwa appointed Provincial for Newly-Erected Rwanda-Burundi Province

Father General Arturo Sosa has appointed Fr Fabien Gasigwa, SJ, as the Provincial of the newly-erected Rwanda-Burundi Province of the Society of Jesus.

Before his appointment as Provincial, Fr Gasigwa had been serving as the Regional Superior of the Rwanda-Burundi Region.

The new Rwanda-Burundi Province traces its origins back to 14 November 1995, when the Superior General of the Society established the Rwanda-Burundi District as a dependent Region of the Central Africa Province. Following that, the dependent Region became an independent Region by decree on 28 May 1999 and has since continued to grow.

Now, Father General Arturo Sosa has decided to erect the new Province by a decree that takes effect from 31 July 2025, the feast of St Ignatius of Loyola.
