Father Francys Silvestrini Adão, new Provincial of Brazil
Father General has appointed Fr Francys Silvestrini Adão as the new Provincial of the Province of Brazil.
Born in Iconha (Espírito Santo) in 1979, Fr Adão entered the Society of Jesus in 1999 at the Novitiate of Our Lady of Grace in Feira de Santana (Bahia) and was ordained a priest in 2011 in Iconha (Espírito Santo). In 2019, he did his Tertianship in Puente Grande (Mexico), and he made his Final Vows in 2020 in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais).
In 2013, Fr Adão obtained his Licentiate in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and in 2019 he obtained his Doctorate in Theology from the Centre Sèvres in Paris. From 2019 to the present, Fr Adão has served in the mission as a professor in the Department of Theology at the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy and Theology (FAJE) in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais), where he also collaborates as a formator in the Community of First Studies San Francisco Xavier. He served as the Socius to the Provincial during 2013-2014, and later in 2021 was appointed as the Province Consultor for Brazil. In 2023, Father Adão participated in the 71st Congregation of Procurators in Loyola as Procurator elect.
His installation as the new Provincial is scheduled for 22 February 2026, with a Eucharistic celebration at the Church of Santo Inácio in Rio de Janeiro.
