New Provincial for the Central Africa Province
Father General has appointed Fr Dominique Dhedya Bamunoba, SJ, as the new Provincial of the Central Africa Province of the Society of Jesus.
Fr Dhedya was born on 27 June 1976 in Strasbourg, Alsace, France. He had his primary education and part of his secondary education at Collège Imara in Lubumbashi (1981–1994), and the remainder at Collège Maele in Kisangani (1994–1995).
He entered the Society of Jesus in 1996 in Iniangi, Kwango (Democratic Republic of the Congo – DRC) after a year of candidature at Collège Bonsomi in Kinshasa. After completing his novitiate in Kisantu in 1998, he went on to study philosophy at Saint Pierre Canisius in Kimwenza (1998-2001), followed by Regency at l’Institut Technique et Professionnel de Kikwit (2001-2003), after which he studied theology at Hekima College in Nairobi, Kenya, (2003–2006).
Fr Dhedya was ordained a deacon in 2006 and was assigned to the novitiate in Kisantu as a formator and the minister of the novitiate community (2006-2008). He was ordained a priest in 2007. He continued his academic formation, spending a year in Rome preparing for biblical studies (2009-2010) before moving to Germany where he earned a Master’s degree in biblical theology in 2014.
Upon returning to the DRC he served as the director of the Manresa Spiritual Center in Kinshasa, Kimwenza (2015–2020), and as Rector of the Technical and Vocational Institute of Kikwit (2020–2023). He had his Tertianship in Nairobi, Kenya and pronounced his Final Vows on 25 January 2023.
Most recently, he has been serving as Spiritual Director and formator of future diocesan priests from mission countries at the Pontificio Collegio Urbano in Rome since September 2023.
Fr Dhedya takes up his new appointment as Provincial on 31 July 2026.
