New Provincial for Greater Poland and Mazovia

On 4 March 2021, Father General appointed Fr. Zbigniew Leczkowski SJ as the new Superior of the Province of Greater Poland and Mazovia of the Society of Jesus. The appointed Provincial will take office on 5 October 2021.

Father Zbigniew Leczkowski SJ was born on April 15, 1967 in Bydgoszcz (Poland). He graduated, in 1988, from the Electronic Technical School in Bydgoszcz. He joined the Society of Jesus after his first year of studies at the Gdańsk University of Technology and completed his novitiate under the supervision of Father Czesław Kozłowski. He has a master's degree in theology and psychology. He studied in Krakow, Warsaw and Rome. He was ordained priest on 29 June 2000 by Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk, apostolic nuncio in Poland.

During the years 2002-2007 he worked in a retreat house in Gdynia, first as deputy director, and then as the director at the Ignatian Spiritual Formation Center. He did his tertianship in Dublin (Ireland) in 2007-2008 under the supervision of Fr. Joseph Dargan and Fr. Jan van Poll. Then he worked for a year in Lublin in the academic chaplaincy team of the Catholic University of Lublin.

In the years 2009-2013 he served in the parish of St. Andrzej Bobola in Szczecin as an academic chaplain, where on 5 November 2011 he made his solemn profession in the presence of the Provincial Tomasz Kot. Since 2013, he has been the Superior of the Toruń Jesuit community and the Rector of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Toruń embracing the pastoral service of the academic community of the Nicolaus Copernicus University. He is the Provincial Delegate for Formation and one of the consultors of the present Provincial. Besides Polish, he also speaks English, Italian and Spanish.
