New Provincial for Spain: Fr. Enric Puiggròs

Fr. Arturo Sosa, Superior General, has appointed Fr. Enric Puiggròs Llavinés as the new Provincial of Spain. The announcement to the Province was made on Thursday 9 March, adding that Fr. Puiggròs would take office in June 2023.

Enric Puiggròs, 48, was a student at the Colegio Sant Ignasi de Sarrià and entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in 1993. In addition to the usual theological studies, he did a degree in fundamental theology on Ignatian pedagogy. He was ordained a priest in 2006 and did his Tertianship in Cape Coast, Ghana, in 2012. It was during this time that he worked with the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in South Sudan.

Among the responsibilities he has carried over the years is that of vocation promoter for eight years for the Province of Spain and later, from 2017, the coordination of the Province’s pre-novitiate team. When in 2014 the former Provinces of Spain were unified, he was chosen as Provincial’s Consultor, a responsibility he has kept until now. In the last two years, he has also been the Delegate of the Apostolic Platform of Catalonia.

His artistic skills are well known, especially his pastoral involvement in music, as a participant in various religious music groups, the best known being Jesuitas Acústico. He will be the Procurator of his Province at the Congregation of Procurators, which will take place in Loyola, Spain, next May.
