Formation.jesuits.global: Video Courses on the Jesuit Tradition

In the digital age, the Society of Jesus continues to seek new ways to accompany the formation of its members. Formation.jesuits.global is a practical response to this challenge: a platform that brings together carefully selected video material to support the formation journey of Jesuits from different parts of the world.

Focus on the sources of the Society

Formation.jesuits.global provides a space for audiovisual content on key themes of the Jesuit tradition. The platform already offers courses on topics such as the Spiritual Diary of St Ignatius, the Spiritual Exercises, Discernment in the History of the Society, and the Formula of the Institute.

With a growing variety of topics and instructors, this platform aims to respond to the call of the 36th General Congregation for greater collaboration and networking in the formation process, as well as to the desire of Jesuits in formation for more contact with the sources of the Society, as expressed in a global survey conducted between 2021 and 2022.

Key features and resources

Key features of formation.jesuits.global include:

• Video library: With courses on fundamental texts, including the Spiritual Diary of St Ignatius, the Spiritual Exercises, Discernment in the History of the Society, the Constitutions, and soon others such as the Letters of St Ignatius or the Deliberations of 1539.

• Private area for formators: With a selection of documents and useful tools to accompany Jesuits in formation, as well as direct access to download the video content.

• New content alert: Jesuits and collaborators can create a new account to be notified when new content is posted.

Strengthening the Universal Body

This platform seeks to foster a sense of unity and universal mission among Jesuits in formation. By providing access to universally relevant resources, formation.jesuits.global helps to cultivate an appreciation for the international nature of the Jesuit vocation, rooted in clear examples that confirm this in the history of the Society.

Fr Mark Ravizza, SJ, General Councilor for Formation, notes: “This platform represents our commitment to forming men who are rooted in our foundational. Today's challenges call for Jesuits who see themselves as members of a universal body at the service of Christ's mission in the world. With this platform we want to offer a hybrid model where video content of intellectual and affective depth, presented by Ignatian experts, is available to animate face-to-face formation encounters where dialogue and personal and community reflection make the difference.”

A Living Resource

Like the formation process itself, the formation.jesuits.global website is not static, but constantly evolving. Regular updates will include new content as well as translations of existing video courses.

We encourage formation delegates and Jesuits to contribute ideas for new material, share resources, and provide feedback to ensure that the platform remains relevant and responsive to emerging needs. You can share your thoughts by clicking on this link or the button on the main page.
