Fr Juan Cristóbal Beytía appointed Provincial of Chilean Province

Father General Arturo Sosa has appointed Fr Juan Cristóbal Beytía as the new Provincial of the Chilean Province (CHL) of the Society of Jesus. Fr Beytía will begin his new role on 31 July 2025.

Born in Santiago in 1972, Father Beytía attended Colegio San Ignacio El Bosque and went on to earn a degree in engineering sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in 1994 and, after taking his First Vows in 1996, continued his studies in the humanities and philosophy at Alberto Hurtado University. He subsequently obtained a Master's degree in management and economics.

He was ordained a priest on 4 August 2006 and pronounced his Final Vows on 2 December 2012.

Fr Beytía has served in several roles, including Advisor to CLC (Christian Life Community) Secundaria de Santiago, President of the Office of Planning and Apostolic Follow-up, and Chaplain for TECHO Chile and International, an organization supporting marginalized communities. He currently serves as Socius and Secretary of the Province and is the director of Mensaje magazine, founded by Saint Alberto Hurtado.
