Fr Alfred Toppo: New Provincial for Madhya Pradesh Province
Father General Arturo Sosa has appointed Fr Alfred Toppo as the new Provincial of the Madhya Pradesh Province of the Society of Jesus.
Born in 1969, Fr Toppo entered the Society in 1989, was ordained a priest in 2005, and pronounced his final vows on 18 May 2023. He studied rural management at the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, and later obtained his doctorate in social anthropology from Sambalpur University, Odisha.
Fr Toppo has held various leadership and administrative roles. His first appointment after ordination was as Coordinator of the Kodaku Community Development Programme in 2005, followed by positions such as the first resident director of the Xavier Institute of Social Action in Raipur (2008-2009) and Director of Jeevan Vikas Maitri in Pathalgaon (2009-2012). He also served as the Province Coordinator for Formation (2010-2013) and held leadership roles at the Xavier Institute of Development Action and Studies in Jabalpur where he served first as Assistant Director (2012-2015) and later as Director (2015-2016). Following that, he was appointed Province Development Director at Loyola Niketan, Bilaspur (2017-2019).
Before his most recent appointment as Provincial, Fr Toppo was serving as Assistant Director at the Xavier Institute of Social Action in Raipur.
