Towards the II Congress JESEDU-Montreal 2027
The COJESEDU, the organizing committee for the II Congress JESEDU-Montreal 2027, held its second meeting from August 6 to 8, 2025, in Montreal.
The meeting brought together key figures from the Jesuit Global Network of Schools (JGNS), including Fr José Mesa, SJ, Secretary of Fr General for Secondary and Pre-Secondary Education; Fr Jimmy Bartolo, SJ, appointed Secretary of Fr General for Secondary and Pre-Secondary Education; Fr Robert Reiser, SJ, Executive Director of the Jesuit Schools Network of North America (JSN); Catharine Steffens, JSN Director of Global Perspectives; and John Patrick Mancini, Vice Principal of Mission and Formation at Loyola High School, Montreal.
This meeting was a significant step in the preparation for the II Congress JESEDU-Montreal 2027, which will take place in Montreal in the summer of 2027. Discussions focused on defining the goals, themes, and methodology of the gathering.
There was also an online session with Ciara Beuster, Associate Director of Educate Magis, discussing the organization of a Virtual Pre-Congress, an opportunity for those who won’t be able to attend the gathering in Montreal, and an important preparation for everyone participating in the event.
The II Congress will serve as the conclusion of the second cycle of Global Gatherings of the JGNS, following the II Colloquium JESEDU-Global2021 and the II Seminar JESEDU-Jogja 2024 in Yogyakarta.
The II Colloquium JESEDU-Global2021 was an opportunity to explore how to educate for a hope-filled future by fostering depth and global citizenship rooted in faith and reconciliation, within the framework of our Educational Integrated (Holistic) Perspective, as outlined in the JESEDU-Global 2021 Vision Statement.
The II Seminar JESEDU-Jogja2024 further developed the theme “Educating for Faith in the 21st Century”, encouraging the JGNS community to seek new ways of leading people to God through Ignatian Spirituality, promoting interreligious dialogue, forming a resilient faith, and advancing faith-based education within Catholic schools in the Ignatian tradition.
The II Congress in Montreal will bring this cycle of the Global Network’s discernment to a close. Participants will reflect on the outcomes of the previous two gatherings through the lens of practical implementation in their own educational contexts and will work collaboratively to define a set of actionable commitments for the future.
