Prayer Guide for the Campaign “Jesuits for Climate Justice: Faith in Action at COP30”
As the world prepares for COP30 in Belém do Pará, Brazil, the Society of Jesus – together with Fe y Alegría and global Ignatian networks – presents the Liturgical and Prayer Guide for the Jesuits for Climate Justice: Faith in Action at COP30.
This guide is a collaborative spiritual resource designed to accompany the global call for climate justice through prayer and reflection. Developed with the contributions of Jesuits, lay collaborators, students, and members of the Global Ignatian Advocacy Network, it expresses a shared commitment to caring for our Common Home.
Rooted in Faith, Committed to Justice
The guide draws inspiration from the 10th anniversaries of Laudato si’ and the Paris Agreement, and from the fourth Universal Apostolic Preference of the Society of Jesus: caring for our Common Home. It affirms that faith and action are inseparable in responding to the ecological crisis.
As part of the global campaign Jesuits for Climate Justice: Faith in Action at COP30, the guide aligns with four key calls for climate justice:
1. Debt cancellation for poor countries,
2. Strengthening the Loss and Damage Fund to support those most affected by the climate crisis,
3. A just energy transition that respects human rights and prioritizes sustainable livelihoods,
4. Promotion of food sovereignty through agroecological practices.
A Call to Prayer and Action
The Liturgical and Prayer Guide invites individuals and communities to join the spiritual journey leading to COP30. Through its prayers and reflections, it encourages us to discern, hope, and act – translating faith into commitment and solidarity with those on the frontlines of the climate emergency.
By praying together, we join a global movement seeking not only policy change but also ecological conversion – a renewed way of relating to creation rooted in gratitude, responsibility, and care.
