Turning Hope into Action: Jesuits for Climate Justice Campaign
In the context of the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels (TAFF), which will be held in Santa Marta, Colombia, from 24 to 29 April 2026, the Jesuits for Climate Justice Campaign (JCJC) is presenting its Statement for COP31, based on the experience gained at Belém do Pará 2025 (COP30*) and the urgent need to defend and promote climate justice in the name of faith.
Along with the declaration, the JCJC is providing a Policy Brief outlining the key aspects of each of the three calls we are focusing on, their status within the COP process, and related links. As required by upcoming events such as the TAFF in Santa Marta or the SB64 meeting in Bonn (June 2026), the JCJC core team will frequently expand the scope and content of this Policy Brief.
The JCJC steering group continues its work by calling on all Jesuits and collaborators of the Society of Jesus to unite in caring for our common home. Together with many other men and women of goodwill, both within and outside the Church, we will promote and defend climate justice.
*COP30 was the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Belém do Pará (Brazil) in November 2025.
COP31 will be the 31st Conference of the Parties and will be held in Antalya, Turkey in November 2026.
