The Jesuits’ commitment to healing and accountability || Jesuits at the Frontiers

Over the last few years, scandals have come to light in many circles – including the Catholic Church – concerning various forms of abuse committed, in particular against minors, but also against adults. The Society of Jesus has not been spared, and some of its members have had to admit their wrongdoing in cases of sexual abuse, abuse of authority or harassment.

In 2018, in response to this deplorable situation and to prevent such scandals in the future, Father General approved the establishment of the Promotion of a Coherent Culture of Protection (PCCP) project. This safeguarding structure is now being implemented all over the world with a formation programme rooted in Ignatian spirituality and adapted to local cultures.

This is another type of “frontier”, that of respecting the most vulnerable and accompanying those who have been hurt. It’s a challenge that’s still very much with us, and one that requires a collective commitment.
