Jesuit Pilgrimage app now in Chinese and Korean

In celebration of the Feast of St Ignatius on 31 July, we are thrilled to announce the release of the Jesuit Pilgrimage app in Simplified and Traditional Chinese, as well as Korean, adding to the existing five languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Vietnamese).

The Jesuit Pilgrimage app offers a comprehensive guide to the sacred sites associated with St Ignatius and the Jesuit order. It is designed to enrich the spiritual journey of pilgrims by providing curated audio-visual content on historical context, spiritual reflections, and practical information. With the addition of Chinese and Korean languages, we hope to extend this enriching experience to a broader community, fostering a deeper connection with our shared spiritual heritage.

St Ignatius of Loyola is known by many titles – Heroic Knight of Christ, Saint of Discernment, Champion of Catholic Reformation, Mystic and Visionary. However, the title that resonates most profoundly with us today is Pilgrim of Faith. Following his profound conversion experience in 1521, Ignatius embarked on a pilgrimage in 1522, walking an estimated total of over 2,650 km (1,650 miles).

For Jesuits and followers of St Ignatius, pilgrimage holds deep spiritual significance. It is viewed as a transformative journey, mirroring St Ignatius’ own pilgrimage, which profoundly shaped his spiritual life and mission. The launch of the app in Simplified and Traditional Chinese, as well as Korean, is part of our ongoing efforts to make the spiritual heritage and pilgrimage experience more accessible to a global audience.

“As the number of Korean Catholics interested in Ignatian spirituality grows, so does the number of Ignatian pilgrimages”, says Fr Yong-su Paschal Kim, SJ, the Provincial of Korea. “This app will help them greatly deepen their Ignatian spirituality.”

In the same vein, Fr Pedro Chia, the director of Communication and Development Office of the Chinese Province says,“There were many people who asked us about having the app in Chinese. It is now possible to listen to those prayer meditations in our own language.”

Whether you are a long-time follower of Ignatian spirituality or new to the teachings of St Ignatius, the free Jesuit Pilgrimage app offers valuable resources to enhance your spiritual journey. We invite you to download the app (available on Google Play and the App Store) and embark on a spiritual journey that transcends borders and languages. May this new version of the Jesuit Pilgrimage app inspire and guide you on your path of faith and discovery.
