Father General

One activity of Fr General Arturo Sosa’s visit to the Province of Venezuela was his prayer meeting with young people. This took place in Caracas on Wednesday, 28 June. The meeting was organised by the Office of Youth and Vocations, supported by a group associated with a number of pastoral ministries.

Although the RAIG is a recent creation, the interest and work oriented towards the Amazon region has been going on for years in some of the Jesuit works that are part of it.

Táchira is an area in Venezuela where, in the main, religious, simple and hard-working people live. On 26 June 2023, a memorable event took place in Loma del Tejar, the headquarters of the sixty year-old Catholic University of Táchira: it was the Jesuit Superior General’s Canonical Visitation to the university. The last such visitation occurred 25 years ago.

In December 2024, the Province of Colombia will celebrate its 100th anniversary. In preparation, and to make this event an opportunity for a spiritual journey, a program has been drawn up which began on 24 June 2023, the feast of St John the Baptist.

La Javeriana is the name of the Jesuit University in Bogotá (Colombia). Clearly, the institution is named after Saint Francis Xavier. To remind students of this, the university’s pastoral center is called the “Centro Pastoral San Francisco Javier”.
