The Jesuit vow of poverty – A testimony from Jorge Serrano, SJ
The enormous food waste! This is what Jorge Serrano thinks of when you bring up poverty in conversation. He is a Colombian Jesuit who oversees a shrine and a few parishes in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) at the moment. A major scandal when he considers all the hungry, underprivileged people he is aware of.
Then, going back to the question about the Jesuit vow of poverty, he believes Father General Arturo Sosa is correct in asking his companions to conduct a thorough examination of conscience, focusing less on the possessions they keep in their rooms and more on the kinds of relationships they maintain with the resources at their disposal.
