As Pope Francis invites us this month to pray especially for those living on the margins of society, let us pray to St Peter Claver, who dedicated his whole life to this evangelical service.

Father General has appointed Fr. James Arjen Tete as the next Provincial of the Calcutta Province. Born in 1967, James Arjen Tete entered the Society of Jesus in 1987, was ordained a priest in 2003 and pronounced his Final Vows in 2018.

Today, Monday 28 August 2023, the Holy See announced the appointment of Antuan Ilgit SJ as Auxiliary Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Anatolia (Turkey).

On 31 July, feast of Saint Ignatius. Father General offered a “present” to the Society of Jesus and its entire apostolic body! This long-awaited document is usually referred to by its Latin title, De Statu Societatis. In English, this translates as The State of the Society.

The Annual Meeting of the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) gathered the six Conference Social Delegates, four Global Ignatian Advocacy Network (GIAN) Leaders, six Advisory Committee Members, and the four coordinators of the SJES Secretariat led by Fr. General's Secretary for Social Justice and Ecology, Fr. Xavier Jeyaraj SJ.

The six members of ICAJE, representing the six Conference networks that form the Jesuit Global Network of Schools, a representative from Fe y Alegría, the Secretary for Education, the assistants to the Secretariat and two members of Educate Magis gathered in Rome.

Fr. Arturo Sosa, Superior General, has named Fr. Primitivo “Jun” Viray as the next President of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP). Fr. Viray will take over from Fr. Antonio Moreno who has served in the role since 2017.

The Secretariat for the Service of Faith has re-established the CIS conferences on Ignatian Spirituality. The first one was held in Rome, at the General Curia, from June 12 to 14. Fr. General proposed the Formula of the Institute as the topic.

We did it! For the first time in three years, we were able to bring together the Communications Delegates from the Society’s six Conferences for a week of intensive sessions. Father General Arturo Sosa has appointed Fr. Thomas Amirtham Provincial of the Madurai (MDU) Province. Born on 25 May 1964, Fr. Amirtham entered the Society of Jesus on 5 July 1984, was ordained a priest on 19 November 1994, and pronounced his Final Vows on 29 April 2005.
