Jesuit Pilgrimage app now available in Hindi and Tamil
The Jesuit Pilgrimage app, a comprehensive digital guide to sacred sites associated with St Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuit order, has expanded its language offerings to include Hindi and Tamil. This significant step adds to the existing eight languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese [Simplified and Traditional], Korean, and Vietnamese), making the rich spiritual heritage of the Jesuits more accessible to a wider audience, particularly in India and regions where these languages are widely spoken.
Designed to enrich the spiritual journeys of both physical pilgrims and those exploring from home, the app offers a curated collection of audio-visual content. This includes historical context, insightful spiritual reflections, and practical information about key Jesuit sites around the world.
“We are happy to bring the Jesuit Pilgrimage app to Hindi speakers”, says Martin Poras, SJ, of Patna Province who headed the Hindi translation team. Joseph Pulickal, SJ, who worked on the translations says, “This project has been a labour of love, and we are confident that it will enrich the spiritual lives of many people in India and beyond. The app offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich history and spirituality of the Jesuits in a way that is accessible and engaging.”
Some Key Features of the app:
• Text and Audio Meditations: Immerse yourself in thoughtful meditations that blend historical narratives, artistic interpretations, and spiritual insights, deepening your understanding of each site.
• Interactive Maps: Effortlessly navigate and explore various Jesuit sites with user-friendly interactive maps, ensuring a seamless pilgrimage experience.
• High-Quality Visuals: Immerse yourself in the beauty and significance of each location through high-resolution photographs and captivating 360-degree images, offering virtual tours.
The inclusion of Hindi and Tamil reflects the Jesuits’ unwavering commitment to inclusivity and their recognition of the diverse linguistic backgrounds of their global audience. This initiative follows previous expansions, such as the addition of Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese, demonstrating the Jesuits’ dedication to making their spiritual heritage accessible to all.
Xavier Anthony, SJ, along with Sibi S from LENS (Loyola Education Network for Social Communications) who headed the Tamil translation team in Madurai Province, expressed their enthusiasm: “We are delighted to make this valuable resource available to Tamil-speaking communities. The app will not only enhance the understanding of Jesuit history and spirituality but also connect people with their faith in a more meaningful way.”
The Jesuit Pilgrimage app is available for free download on both Google Play and the App Store. By offering this valuable resource in multiple languages, the Jesuits invite users worldwide to embark on a transformative journey of faith and discovery.
